Microsoft CoPilot – Stop Using Search Engines

CoPilot Tip: Stop Using Search Engines!

I know telling you to stop using search engines is a pretty dramatic statement considering how much we rely on them these days! However, with CoPilot and ChatGPT available to everyone the results with AI tend to be so much better! If you’re searching for a single thing like a company or a movie name or a product, a web search might be the right tool. However, if you’re researching anything, CoPilot or ChatGPT is most likely your best bet!

When interacting with AI such as Copilot, providing specific and clear instructions helps ensure you get accurate and relevant responses. For example, instead of asking a broad question like “Tell me about World War II,” you could ask, “Can you summarize the key events of World War II and explain how these events shaped the war?” This helps Copilot understand exactly what information you’re looking for and tailor the response accordingly. The beauty of CoPilot is that you can continue to build on your original question and continue a conversation get down to exactly what you’re looking for. As a business owner I use AI daily for research and writing. I am encouraging everyone to start using CoPilot (or ChatGPT) instead of a search engine to begin your journey into its power.

Some help to get you started::

  1. Identify Your Goal: Think about what you want to achieve with your query. Are you looking for a summary, detailed information, or a specific fact?
  2. Be Specific: Include relevant details in your question. For instance, mention dates, names, or specific topics.
  3. Clarify Your Needs: If you need a brief overview or an in-depth explanation, let Copilot know. For example, “Can you give me a brief overview of the causes of World War II?”

By following these steps, you’ll get more precise and helpful responses from Copilot. Feel free to try it out with any topic you’re curious about!

Examples

Example 1: Researching a Topic

Broad Question: “Tell me about climate change.” Specific Question: “Can you explain the main causes of climate change and its impact on sea levels?”

Example 2: Getting Help with a Task

Broad Request: “Help me with my resume.” Specific Request: “Can you help me write a summary statement for my resume that highlights my experience in project management?”

Example 3: Learning a New Skill

Broad Question: “How do I create a formula in Excel?” Specific Question: “Can you provide a step-by-step guide for how to use formulas in excel? And, could you provide a few examples of common formulas?”

Example 4: Understanding a Concept

Broad Question: “Explain photosynthesis.” Specific Question: “Can you describe the process of photosynthesis in plants and its importance to the ecosystem?”

Example 5: Writing a blog entry and expand your questioning

Broad Request: “Help me write a blog about making widgets.” Specific Request: “Can you provide a list of ideas for a blog about creating widgets?”
After CoPilots Response: “Prepare a blog entry for the third idea in the list. Make the blog easy to read but in a professional voice. Wrap up the blog explaining how my company, ABC Widgets works closely with our customer to produce the best widgets around.”

By using specific and clear instructions like these, you’ll get more detailed and relevant responses from Copilot. Continuing to build on your requests will aalow you to refine the answers and get to the personalized result you are looking for.
