Patch Management
Safeguarding Your Business’s Digital Assets

Patch Management
Patch management is crucial for maintaining the security and functionality of your systems. It involves regularly updating software to fix vulnerabilities, improve performance, and add new features. By promptly applying patches, you can protect your business from cyber threats that exploit known weaknesses.
This proactive approach helps prevent data breaches, reduces downtime, and ensures compliance with industry regulations. In essence, effective patch management is a key component of a robust cybersecurity strategy, safeguarding your business’s digital assets and maintaining operational continuity.
Security Patching and Updates
Software updates generally fall under these categories:
- Regular Updates: Microsoft releases patches for operating systems regularly, including monthly “Patch Tuesday” updates.
- Critical Vulnerabilities: Patches for critical vulnerabilities are applied within 48 hours of release.
- Non-Critical Vulnerabilities: Updates for non-critical vulnerabilities are applied within two weeks for internet-facing systems and within one month for non-internet-facing systems.
- Service Packs. Services Packs are bundled packages of all security updates and hotfixes, plus additional fixes, available at the time of release. The Service Pack becomes the new baseline for subsequent security updates and computers without the latest service pack may fail to install future patches.
